Hi!
I’m Emily, a UX designer from Austin, Texas.
Guided by critical thinking, honesty, and empathy, I use my writing and design skills to make products more useful for others. With a passion for learning and helping, I use my background as an educator, combined with new skills as a researcher and designer to improve products with innovative solutions that fit users’ needs.
My background in education includes 11 years in the classroom where I developed a variety of invaluable skills that serve me well as a UX designer. The responsibilities of teachers are endless, but include:
Curriculum design
User research - I knew each and every single one of my students and what made them tick… it takes a lot of research to get to that point!
Prototyping - I’d design lessons and redesign until the content was accessible to everyone
Usability Testing with lots of iterations - there are so many different types of learners out there!
As a teacher, I was always having to design, adapt, analyze, reflect, differentiate, assess, and then start all over again through that process. This oftentimes involved singing and puppets, because through it all, I still hold a firm belief that learning can and should be fun! In addition to my background in education, I also have a background in theater. (This may account for the singing and puppets.) That helps me to bring a story-teller’s hat to the table as a designer.
A lover of both learning and teaching, I look for opportunities to grow, and to pass my knowledge along to others to help them in their journeys. I’m so excited to now begin a career where I get to help others by showing empathy and understanding, then translating that into my designs to make products more useful for them.
If any of this sounds right up your alley, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I’d love to chat!
